Asymbiotic Germination of Aerides japonicum

Abstract
Aerides japonicum is Korean native orchid distributed at Che-ju and Hong-do island, but it has been exterminated by thoughtless collectors. The study on determination of the most effective medium for seedling growth as well as seed germination was carried out to prevent it from extermination of stocks and give chance for growers to keep it. The results obtained were as follows.
1. Germination of seeds and growth of seedlings on germinated media were the best at 3g/§¤ hyponex£«4g/§¤peptone.
2. Growth of seedlings cultured under light was better than that cultured under light after dark culture for 70days and addition of 35g/§¤ banana homogenates and 2g/§¤ activated charcoal to the medium were much effective to the germination of seeds and growth of seedlings after germination.
3. Growth of seedlings after transplanting was more vigorous on the medium containing 3g/§¤ hyponex and 4g/§¤ peptone with 10% apple juice.
